Description:

SUMMARY

The Construction Field Safety Officer (FSO) reports to the Site CSO and supports the project site to keep everyone in their work environment safe from danger and ensures workers continue to follow all safety requirements. They also assist in conducting and monitoring work site inspections and investigations.
The Field CSO’s need to be physically on site and visible as they spend the majority of their time engaged with the workers to closely monitor compliance with safety requirements and to identify potential work hazards.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum OFA Level 2 (Intermediate), higher level is preferred.
  • Experience in construction formwork using Peri and Doka systems is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and the ability to comply with all WorkSafe (WCB) procedures/safety practices including on site work practices and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and/or concrete forming is preferred.
  • Experience in performing site inspections.
  • Possess solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time-management skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and use effective communication skills in escalating issues to the CSO and Site Superintendent.
  • Ability to follow directions well.
  • Ability to understand and speak Spanish is considered an asset.
  • Must be fit and able to work outdoors as this position is outside 80 to 90% of the time including in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be reliable and dependable.
  • Must be willing to learn and to continue to develop skills and accept more responsibility.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as required, including weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a sense of responsibility and awareness for self and for the site workers.
  • Support the completion of Daily Field Level Hazard Assessment (PSA).
  • Participate and record all JOSH, Site Toolbox, and Safety meetings, as required to support the Site CSO.
  • Participate in weekly trade meetings in addition to or in lieu of the CSO as requested.
  • Assist CSO to conduct, monitor and record work site inspections (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly).
  • Provide safety support by collecting daily PSA’s; perform site inspections; update story boards, lessons learned; and assist with facilitating tool-box meetings as required.
  • Assist in onboarding newly hired employees for the project by providing them with on-site and safety orientations.
  • Act as a liaison to disseminate all safety requirements to site employees including from the CSO and the Site Superintendent.
  • Assist the site CSO to monitor and update worker’s site training in On-Track inventory system and in Procore.
  • Perform regular periodic site walk-throughs and safety checks throughout the entire site to educate and enforce safety guidelines and compliance, with an emphasis on active operations.
  • Escalate and communicate safety issues and areas of concern to the CSO and/or Site Superintendent.
  • Collect, review and upload equipment inspections into Hilti OnTrack system and Procore.
  • Scan company assets on a monthly basis using Hilti OnTrack system and verify assets and inventory for applicable certification and/or maintenance and report findings to the CSO.
  • Influence positive safety improvements by way of education and a collaborative, coaching approach.
  • Comply with WorkSafe (WCB) procedures and safety practices including on-site work practices and guidelines.
  • Support the CSO in other related duties.
  • Must have and wear personal protection equipment (PPE) and have a reliable means of transportation to work/project sites.
