This Sector is looking for another talented professional to complement their team, in the form of a Construction Manager.

GIBB requires a Professional Construction Manager with water abstraction and pipeline construction management experience and competency, to manage and oversee the construction projects water abstraction and pipeline related to water infrastructure, such as mass concrete works, river diversion, works, balancing dams, pump stations, and other required infrastructure including integration and coordination of all projects works. They work closely with the client, design engineers, project managers, other technical specialists, and contractors to ensure that construction projects are designed, planned, and executed effectively.

  • Managing and overseeing the construction phases of water abstraction weir and pipeline infrastructure construction projects from start to closeout.
  • Collaborating with architects, design engineers, and project managers to ensure that projects are designed and planned to be constructed, safely, and effectively.
  • Ensuring that the construction phase is completed within budget and on time.
  • Ensuring that water abstraction and pipeline infrastructure projects meet regulatory requirements, and design specifications, and adhere to safety, reliability, and sustainability standards.
  • Collaborating with contractors and subcontractors to ensure that water abstraction and pipeline infrastructure projects are executed effectively and managing any issues or conflicts that arise.
  • Managing and coordinating the construction activities to prevent and/or effectively mitigate the claims risk is minimized, and potential disputes swiftly and amicably resolved.
  • Ensuring that all project documentation, including design drawings, specifications, quality data packs, and reports, are maintained and up to date.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost savings and making recommendations to senior management.
  • Conducting regular construction team meetings and providing guidance and support to construction supervision team members.
  • Ensuring that all project stakeholders are progressively and regularly informed of project progress and any changes to the project plan.
  • Managing and monitoring project risks, developing, and implementing risk mitigation plans as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or BTech (Civil, Elec, Mech) (copies of results to be provided)
  • Registered with ECSA as a Professional (copy of registration to be provided), and/or Registered with SACPCMP (PrCPM advantageous) (copy of registration to be provided)

Experience:

  • Experience within the Construction Environment
  • 10 – 20 years of Construction and Resident Engineer experience

    Core competencies:

  • Have a strong technical background in water infrastructure construction engineering, as well as excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Effectively managed multidisciplinary infrastructure construction projects, with active and effective communication, and stakeholders at all levels, and managed project risks and issues
  • Must be able to guide and lead supporting staff.
  • Have knowledge of construction processes and standards, as well as experience with contract management and project budgeting
  • Understanding and/or experience in managing FIDIC-based construction projects.
  • Excellent leadership and teamwork skills are essential for success in this role
  • Must have MS Office experience
