Black Diamond Paving is looking to hire a Construction Paving Manager for their office in Escondido, CA!

The Paving Manager will successfully direct multiple asphalt, concrete, sealcoat, and striping crews to achieve company quality standards on all projects. This individual oversees scheduling, project budgets, and will be actively involved in all areas of the crew’s work. The Paving Manager will cooperate with and support all crews, departments, and affiliates of the company to to attain all company goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Expertise in how paving, concrete, seal coat, and striping projects are built and executed.
  • Manage all Production staff.
  • Manage all project scheduling (crew, vendors, subs, etc.)
  • Oversee OR assist with personnel actions, such as new hires, training, safety, promotions, transfers, terminations, or disciplinary measures.
  • Manage the performance evaluation process of assigned unit and provide leadership, counseling, and coaching to employees. Maintain harmonious employee/employer relations.
  • Provides vision, strategy, team leadership and development, communication, training, and coaching to ensure a productive and cohesive production team.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the crew performance and documenting all job activities and job performance.
  • Conduct and participate in daily and weekly meetings with associated Superintendents, Foreman, and broader team.
  • Assist Sales with technical aspects of bidding and performing projects and job expectations.
  • Works closely with Production Coordinator or Project Consultants to schedule jobs and ensure proper placement of crews.
  • Utilize company resources efficiently and expedite the final acceptance of projects including any punch list items.
  • Obtains permits when needed to ensure compliance with municipalities, keeping up to date on permitting regulations and requirements.
  • Interface with clients throughout all project phases, providing updates, discussing change orders (with Project Consultants), and ensure work completed meets company standards for quality as well as the requirements of the customer.
  • Identifying and reporting on quality problems in site preparation and making necessary changes to correct problems.
  • Managing the affiliated job site activities (truck operators, material suppliers, traffic control, and other contractors).
  • Develops systems and processes to monitor and achieve operational KPI’s including but not limited to the following areas (operational efficiency, profitability, estimating accuracy, scheduling efficiency, field productivity, safety, quality, employee and client satisfaction).
  • Assure that all employees are treated in accordance with the code of conduct and guidelines.
  • Assure all employees adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Works closely with mechanics to ensure that all equipment and other assets are in operable/good condition and regularly reports on the condition of equipment and the need for service.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalency preferred and more than 8 years of experience in the construction industry.
  • OSHA Certified is preferred.
  • Must have valid driver’s license that meets company’s insurance requirements.
  • Must have strong proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet design and maintenance, navigating in databases, and creating presentations.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to utilize various production tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of asphalt, concrete, sealcoat, sitework and striping principles and practices.
  • Ability to read and understand construction blueprints/plans.
  • Ability to interpret complex information or instructions into understandable job specifications, measurements, instructions, and standards.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to multitask, in a fast-paced environment with high tolerance for stress while maintaining a high attention for detail.Must be able to work extended hours and weekends/holidays as needed to meet deadlines.
