YOUR OPPORTUNITY

Stantec is seeking a Project Manager (PM) with substantial healthcare project experience to join our Program Management and Construction Management team (PMCM). The PM ensures the success of assigned projects through client engagement, leadership, and prudent management. You will focus on managing project activities, expectations, and risks, while leading, supporting, and/or advising clients throughout all stages of the project lifecycle. You will have a sound knowledge of the construction industry, project management functions, tools and systems and be able to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS

  • Owner’s representative and multi-disciplinary team leadership experience are essential to the role. Knowledge and experience in healthcare projects, including clinical, emergency services, mental health, X-ray/MRI suites, laboratory and research, ambulatory, medical offices, and hospital support services and systems is considered an asset.
  • Involvement on projects delivered under a wide range of procurement methods (including DB, PDB, P3, CM etc.) is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to lead a team forward.
  • Ability to manage project stakeholders by speaking clearly and persuasively with exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to perform well under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Adapts to a dynamic project environment and able to manage multiple tasks over an extended period.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proactively identify project risks and determine their impact on the project with a proven ability to mitigate or resolve in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with clients, internal teams, and contractors.
  • Strong computer literacy in scheduling (MS Project knowledge is an asset), word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Strong understanding of design and construction process and requirements.
  • Understanding of plans, contracts, and specifications.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Believes in developing trust and relationships with the project team based on performance and shared goals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture/planning or a similar field would be an asset.
  • P.Eng registration/eligibility for registration with EGBC is an asset.
  • PMP certification or an equivalent designation is an asset.
  • LEED AP certification or an equivalent designation is an asset.
  • A minimum of five to ten years of experience in healthcare projects including:
    o Construction of specialized medical suites, e.g. hemodialysis, interventional cardiology and interventional radiology, medical imaging with X-Ray, MRI, CT-Scan, and PET equipment,
    o Acute site renovations,
    o Building renovations with additions,
    o Tenant improvements,
    o Renovations/upgrades in laboratory/research spaces,
    o Renovations/upgrades in mental health sites,
    o IT, access control, and security systems
    o Emergency response centres including dispatch and ambulance facilities, and

o Infrastructure work/upgrades (civil, utilities, telecom, mechanical, electrical, etc.).

  • Familiarity with IPAC, IPS, and IMITS furnishing standards is an asset.
  • Formal training on CSA Z317.13:22Infection control during construction, renovation, and maintenance of health care facilities is considered an asset.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage diverse projects of varying size and complexity through the entire project lifecycle.
  • Manage projects across the healthcare sector including green field construction, renovations, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Identify and manage priorities, risks, issues, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Provide day-to-day project oversight and communication with the client and project team.
  • Understand contracts and delivery methods and assist with the negotiation of contracts.
  • Develop, track, update, forecast and modify project schedules.
  • Review and track all contracts, invoices, and payments to all contractors, consultants, and vendors and prepare reports for clients and other stakeholders.
  • Manage change order process for scope, schedule and budget variance and assist in resolving disputes and claims.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and the HSE management systems on assigned projects.
  • Provide recommendations on project management standards, governance, and procedures to continuously improve project management practices.
  • Act as an ambassador of the company in all interactions with clients, consultants, and peers.
  • Act as a supervisor for more junior staff including project coordinators or assistant PMs, providing oversight, coaching, and mentoring support as required.
  • Provide procurement support to the Client, including preparation of procurement documentation and contract development.
