Description:

Applications are invited for the temporary part time position of Construction Technician within the School of Trades, located at the Welland campus. The starting salary is $24.05/hr for a 24 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary. This is a temporary position and is set to commence October 2024 and conclude in March 2025.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Trades, the successful candidate supports the coordination of the construction lab activities for the Carpentry and Renovation programs by providing guidance and support to the program technologists, faculty, and students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post Secondary Diploma in a Construction related program
  • Certificate of Qualification in a Construction related field is considered an asset
  • Strong organizational, communication and computer skills
  • Proven ability to demonstrate and follow safety procedures
  • Ability to handle diverse requests for technical assistance and information
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work well in a team environment

Responsibilities:

  • Daily maintenance, housekeeping, and resourcing of labs
  • Maintain all fixed and portable power tools in the construction programs
  • Maintain a supply of replacement parts, inventory, and consumable supplies for use by students and staff
  • Perform seasonal and preventative maintenance on gas powered construction equipment
  • Ensure all Health and Safety requirements are met in the Technology Skills Centre labs
  • Set up labs for professors as requested
  • Assist faculty with aiding students in laboratory work as required
  • Responsible for general organization of the Technology Skills Compound
  • Maintain a Maintenance Management System to ensure all preventative maintenance, certifications, verifications are done on all tools and equipment as required
  • Maintain all survey equipment and ensure it is kept in working order
  • Designs, builds, and tests prototype projects and lab activities for professors for inclusion in student course work
