Working Full time : 10 Sessions per week
Experience an exciting opportunity to join the esteemed Breast Radiology Department at The Countess of Chester Hospital.
The successful candidate will be expected to integrate into the team of existing Consultants, Consultant Radiographer and Radiographers in Breast Imaging in order to provide a complete diagnostic imaging service, including the support of one stop breast symptomatic clinics, screening reporting and assessment clinics, reporting surveillance mammography, performing vacuum guided excision of breast lesions as indicated by the symptomatic and screening MDT, supporting both screening and symptomatic breast MDMs and performing image guided localisations to support breast surgeons with impalpable lesion excision.
Chester provides a dedicated symptomatic breast imaging service and jointly provides a breast screening service with Wirral University Teaching Hospital.
This is a full-time position but candidates wishing to work part-time or in a job share are encouraged to apply. If a part-time or job share person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed with the appointee on a personal basis to meet the needs of the service.
Contribute to the general workload of the department including ultrasound, CT, MRI and plain film reporting
Develop Breast services
Participate in MDTs as appropriate
Share with colleagues in the training of SpRs
Share with colleagues in the training, supervision and support of trainee and qualified ultrasonographers, and when appropriate of radiographers undergoing skill mix training
Participate in the general development of the Radiology Department by involvement with departmental or Trust projects/committees, equipment procurement, administration and management, audit, teaching, research, fostering good working relations within the department and good liaison with hospital clinicians and GPs
Participate in the general radiologist on-call rota

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
