Description:
Applications are invited for a Consultant Clinical Immunologist based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
The Department of Immunology delivers national immunodeficiency, specialist allergy and central immunology laboratory services for Wales (population 3.2 million). It currently has a team of 4 Consultant Clinical Immunologists, an Immunology Consultant Nurse, 5 Clinical Immunology Specialist Nurses, an Immunology Specialty trainee and dedicated research staff. It is a friendly, research-active department with a range of current clinical trials, laboratory studies and investigator-initiated studies. The Immunodeficiency Centre for Wales is centrally commissioned and hosted by Cardiff and Vale UHB, one of the largest health institutions in the UK with close links to Cardiff University. The Immunology Laboratory Service is one of the largest in the UK in terms of repertoire and number of assays performed per year and is UKAS Accredited.
Research facilities are available on site and good opportunities exist for collaborative research with the UHB and medical school. The appointee would be encouraged to apply for honorary academic status with Cardiff University and would be responsible for the professional supervision, informal teaching and management of junior medical, nursing, scientific and other laboratory staff jointly with the existing Consultants. There will be a formal requirement to become the joint educational supervisor of any Specialty Registrar trainee.
The post holder will provide a clinical consultative service in immunology with responsibility for the continuing care of patients who have primary immunodeficiency and secondary immunodeficiency disorders. This may also involve seeing some children with suspected immune disorders and the shared care of children with these disorders with paediatricians in dedicated paediatric immunology clinics performed at UHW. The appointee will provide consultant input and leadership to the Immunology Laboratory and will provide a clinical outpatient consultative service in clinical allergy.
Cardiff and Vale UHB is situated in a vibrant, easily accessible part of Wales which combines the best of city life, coast and countryside.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
The basic salary range for this post is £100,000 per annum to £146,000 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as substantive Consultant or as Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
