Description:

We are looking to recruit a new colleague to our department. The post in Internal Medicine, Diabetes & Endocrinology will be based in Lancaster with responsibility for inpatient and outpatient care at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) and endocrine outpatient care at Westmorland General Hospital (WGH).
The appointee is required to have appropriate experience and interest in the specialty and to hold or to be within 6 months of obtaining completion of specialist training certification from the General Medical Council.
The appointee will join two existing consultants and a locum colleague in providing a high quality service and will be encouraged and supported in the development of sub-specialty interests. The diabetes and endocrinology team relocated its clinics to a new diabetes centre at the RLI in July 2017 providing exciting options for new colleagues to participate in service re-design and development.
The University Hospitals Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust provides undergraduate medical education for Lancaster University and is keen to develop its association with the university further, giving newly appointed consultants valuable opportunities to take an interest in undergraduate education, and or, research.
The post holder for this position will become a member of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Team and will be responsible for providing high-quality service, including meeting outpatient access times and other relevant quality standards. The specific goal of this appointment is to enable the team to offer a wider range and greater number of specialist clinics in diabetes and endocrinology and to improve inpatient diabetes management. Having a special interest in one or more of the following areas would be beneficial: diabetic ante-natal care, young adult diabetes care, diabetic foot disease, insulin pump therapy, lipids, neuroendocrine tumours, and thyroid nodule disease. Endocrine clinics are held at both the RLI and WGH, and joint endocrine/endocrine surgery/ENT thyroid nodule clinics are also operated at both hospitals. A weekly internal non-cancer endocrine tumour MDT with our two Endocrine Surgeons, head and neck specialist Radiologist, Histopathologist, and Clinical Chemist is scheduled. The appointee will have the opportunity to participate in the Lancashire and South Cumbria Neuroendocrine Tumour Network MDT as well as in complex and educational endocrinology case discussion meetings.
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
