Description:

We are delighted to be able to offer two Consultant posts in Emergency Medicine at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd (YGC) in North Wales.
Emergency Medicine at YGC has undergone a radical transformation towards a modern and rapidly evolving service that is ambitious to see the highest standards of emergency care for its population. We are looking for Consultants who have vision, ambition and drive to work alongside the existing team to progress the department.
The post is based at the YGC site which is a very rapidly developing and strategically important hospital within North Wales. With partner hospitals in Wrexham and Bangor as well as associated community hospitals, MIUs, and primary care services, YGC is part of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB). This is a fully integrated organisation and one of the largest healthcare providers in the UK.
The department provides 24-hour cover by a senior shop floor decision maker and the Tier 2 level is provided by a mixture of Specialty doctors and EPIC Clinical Fellows.
The ED currently provides Consultant shopfloor cover from 8am to 11 pm.
YGC operates an Emergency Physician in Charge ( EPIC) model. The EPIC runs the ED with the nurse in charge based in the ED hub according to the ED EPIC standard operating procedures. Consultants are expected to provide high standards of shop floor leadership and direction, working closely with colleagues from WAST, nursing, and management to ensure the safety of patients and to ensure good and timely decision making.
Other, non-Medical Team Leader ED Consultant DCC sessions include shop floor working via the Second Physician on-Flexible shift and the Ward Administration dealing with patient safety including review of radiology and did not wait categories
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is the largest health organisation in Wales, providing a full range of primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for a population of around 676,000 people, across the six counties of North Wales (Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham). Some areas of Mid-Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire are also covered by the Health Board.
The Health Board employs around 16,500 staff and has a budget of around £1.4 billion. It is responsible for the operation of three district general hospitals (Wrexham Maelor Hospital, in Wrexham, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd near Rhyl, and Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor) as well as 22 other acute and community hospitals and a network of over 90 health centres, clinics, community health team bases and mental health units. The Heath Board also coordinates the work of 121 GP practices and NHS services provided by North Wales’ Dentists, Opticians and Pharmacies.
Situated in the Northern most aspect of Wales, the Health Board lies at the edge of the beautiful Snowdonia National Park and spans a huge and diverse geographical area. North Wales also boasts some of the UKs most varied and spectacular coastline, offering unparalleled opportunities to engage with outdoor activities in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
