Description:
Emergency Medicine at Wrexham Maelor Hospital (WMH) has undergone a radical transformation towards a modern and rapidly evolving service that is ambitious to see the highest standards of emergency care for its population. We are looking for a Consultant who has the vision, ambition and drive to work alongside the existing team to progress the department.
The post is based at the WMH site which is a very rapidly developing and strategically important hospital within North Wales. With partner hospitals in Glan Clwyd and Bangor as well as associated community hospitals, Minor Injury/Illness Unit, and primary care services. WMH is part of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB). This is a fully integrated organisation and one of the largest healthcare providers in the UK.
Wrexham is the newest city in North Wales having a thriving and diverse industrial centre and also being a market location for a large rural hinterland. It is the gateway to North Wales and has good connections to the main motorway system. It is situated within easy reach of major cities and major road networks.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Candidates who are working towards their CESR will also be considered, although please note the offered contract will be fixed term for candidates not holding their CCT or completed CESR
The ED currently provides Consultant shop floor cover Monday - Friday from 8am to midnight. This may be extended with additional Consultant expansion. WMH operates a model based on the RCEM standards of an Emergency Physician in Charge (EPIC). The EPIC coordinates the ED with the nurse in charge based in the ED hub according to the standard operating procedures.
Consultants are expected to provide high standards of shop floor leadership and direction, working closely with colleagues from Welsh Ambulance Services Trust (WAST), nursing, and management to ensure the safety of patients and to ensure good and timely decision making and patient flow through the hospital. There is time allocated for non-patient faced Direct Clinical Contact, which would involve review of Radiology reports and Concerns Management.
