Description:
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Neurosciences and Trauma Intensive Care Medicine with either Emergency Medicine or Anaesthetics based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. There are two posts available, these are to cover service expansion.
The successful candidate will join an expanding, innovative, and dynamic 27 bed neurosciences and trauma critical care (NCCU) intensive care unit. The unit admits over 1500 patients per year primarily following major trauma and also patients from the entire range of neurosciences pathologies in addition to smaller numbers of general critical illnesses.
The vast majority of admissions to NCCU are emergency admissions and represent a complex, diverse mix of patients in line with the neurosciences and trauma services the hospital offers to the 6.25 million people within the East of England. Critically ill patients arising from the other specialties at Addenbrooke’s are cared for by our 32 bed sister unit, the John Farman Intensive Care Unit (JF ICU).
The successful applicant will join a team of Consultants providing 24/7 cover to NCCU and will be appointed jointly with either the Emergency Medicine Department or the Department of Anaesthesia and provisional job plans are designed for candidates with a dual specialisation in intensive care medicine with either emergency medicine or anaesthethesia.
Successful candidates will be leading the care provided by the multidisciplinary team within NCCU to victims of major trauma and to patients with complex neurosurgical and neurological disease.
Applicants should be fully registered with the GMC and have a CCT in Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine or Anaesthetics or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
Applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.
It is a requirement for skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
