Description:

Position Overview: We are currently seeking a highly skilled an experienced Consultant in Adult Psychiatry to join our esteemed team in Consett, Durham. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and compassionate psychiatrist to lead and contribute to the delivery of high-quality mental health services for adults within our community.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry (or eligibility for registration).

  • Significant experience working as a consultant in adult mental health services, with a strong track record of clinical excellence and leadership.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health disorders in adults, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, and personality disorders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and engagement in clinical governance activities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the ongoing improvement of mental health services for adults.

Responsibilities:

Conduct psychiatric assessments, formulate accurate diagnoses, and prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. Provide consultation and support to primary care providers, community mental health teams, and other stakeholders involved in the care of adults with mental health needs. Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, including specialty trainees, medical students, and other members of the healthcare team. Participate in service development initiatives, quality improvement projects, and research activities to enhance the delivery of mental health care services for adults.
