Description:

LOCATION

Saint Catherines Hospice, Scarborough
We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our well-established and highly motivated Palliative Care Team in Saint Catherines Hospice.
This is an exciting post that will offer opportunities and experience of all aspects of Palliative Care. The post holder will join another Palliative Medicine Consultant with responsibility for the effective and appropriate medical care of up to 18 including Specialist Palliative Care inpatient beds, respite and reablement. The service also delivers consultant support and advice to patients and families within the acute setting and consultant led support for Palliative Care community teams.
The post holder will be based in Saint Catherines Hospice, Scarborough where you will have your own office with full IT facilities and administrative support. You will be working alongside the current Hospice medical team which includes a fellow Consultant, GPs with a special interest and trainees.
We have close links with Hull and York Medical Schools and the successful applicant will be expected to actively participate in a broad range of teaching activities. Saint Catherines prides itself on being a research active hospice and involvement in audit and research activity will be part of the job role.
The overall clinical workload will be shared in a way that is flexible and best fits the skills and experience of the successful candidate as well as matching their working pattern.

Saint Catherines covers a wide geographical area in North and East Yorkshire and as well as our established inpatient and community teams we have an active Wellbeing Centre which provides:

  • Palliative Care clinic
  • Breathlessness clinic
  • Joint Hospital/Hospice clinic for Motor Neurone Disease patients
  • Complimentary therapy
  • Counselling and bereavements support
  • Lymphoedema clinic

The hospice is an independent charity, which receives approximately 30% funding from the ICS. It opened in 1985 and moved in 2004 to purpose-built premises situated in close proximity to Scarborough Hospital, part of York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Saint Catherines is the sole hospice for the area and is well supported by the community. It is staffed by a multi-professional team consisting of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and counsellors. There are strong links with oncology, cardiology and neurology services and patients are eligible according to need rather than diagnosis.
If you have a passion for advancing palliative and end of life care and if you enjoy being part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, this is the role for you.

The successful candidate should have completed Specialist Training and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC. The salary will be based on the current NHS Consultant pay scale and you can also transfer your existing NHS pension. The hospice is proud to offer benefits such as

  • Employee assistance programme
  • Free onsite parking
  • Subsidised meals in the Hospice Café
  • On site gym
  • PilatesDiscount in our charity shops

  • For an informal discussion or to arrange a visit, please contact Ray Baird CEO on 01723 351421
