We’d like you to join us as a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at Hothfield Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. This position is part time - 1 day per week.
Set in Kent within the 12 acre grounds of a manor house, Hothfield Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre specialises in intensive rehabilitation for people in the early stages of recovery from a brain injury right through to residential care. We care for adults over the age of 18. Our team are also experienced in managing associated needs, such as specialist spasticity management, PEG feeds and skin integrity problems.
Our on-site multi-disciplinary team (MDT) includes nursing, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, clinical psychology and rehabilitation assistants. The team is further supported by weekly sessional visits from a consultant in rehabilitation medicine.
Our clinical team is further supported by a centre manager, an activity co-ordinator and a team of housekeeping, catering, maintenance and administration staff.
Our MDT work together to ensure every team member is working towards the same practical, realistic goals and all therapies are focused on the areas that will enable patients to achieve those clearly defined and agreed goals.
The setting for our neurorehabilitation service is a purpose-built unit. We offer active, short-term rehabilitation for people who have significant speech, functional or cognitive needs. Individuals each have personal rehabilitation goals and we work to a structured therapy programme to help them relearn and practise everyday skills to give them the best chance of a return home.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MRCP (Required)
  • CCT (or equivalent) in Rehabilitation Medicine (preferred)
  • We will also consider those with a CCT (or equivalent) in General Internal Medicine / Geriatric Medicine / Neurology with evidence of clinical practice in areas of rehabilitation
  • Working within an inpatient rehabilitation setting treating those with neurological or brain injury (Desirable)
  • Evidenced based practice
  • Confidence in engaging internal and external stakeholders
  • Patient centred, outcomes-based care

Responsibilities:

Clinical

  • Leading the multidisciplinary team that undertakes assessments for admissions to the service within our partner acute hospitals
  • Provide input for Spasticity and Bowel / Bladder Management.
  • Leading the multidisciplinary team in the care and treatment of our patients, including weekly review
  • Attend family meetings, case review meetings and discharge planning meetings as required
  • Practise evidence-based care through national standards and guidelines
  • Provide supervision to their allocated junior doctor
  • Prepare for and participate in external reviews (CQC, Quality Network reviews); liaison with local commissioners

Management

  • Attendance, and contribution to, the Group Neuro clinical governance meeting.
  • Participate in service development, through research, innovation and local audit.
  • Continue strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly our partners in the NHS
  • Engagement in National Networks
  • Ongoing personal development through CPD and annual appraisal (and adhering to the GMC’s Good Medical Practice).
