Description:
The Department of Respiratory Medicine cares for both inpatients and outpatients with acute and chronic respiratory disease. As well as providing out-patient and inpatient care we also run a large hospital at home service, Respiratory Assessment Unit and have a developing integrated care service. The hospital at home service is provided by the Respiratory Consultants and a dedicated team of Respiratory Nurses, the Dudley Respiratory Assessment Service (DRAS).
In Respiratory Medicine these are run on three sites. The Russell Hall site, which is the inpatient base for the Trust and two satellite hospitals: Dudley Guest Hospital and the Corbett Hospital in Stourbridge.
We will have vacancies for two consultants. Applicants with a sub-speciality interest in Sleep and Ventilation, Asthma and COPD would be particularly welcome. Saying that all sub-speciality interests would be considered and welcomed.
To undertake continuing medical educational and professional development to satisfy the requirements of the Trust and the Royal College of Physicians
To undertake other duties as and may be subsequently agreed with the Medical Directorate
Provision of a general medical service to the population of Dudley and the surrounding districts including acute medical admissions to Russell Hall Hospital, Respiratory medicine outpatient clinics at Russell Hall Hospital and at the other chest clinic
Deliver 3 outpatient clinics a week. They will be expected to have flexibility in working environment (community clinics)
Participation in medical audit and to continuing medical education together with contribution to the education and training of Junior Staff.
The Consultant will be responsible for daily ward rounds when on call to assess all new respiratory admissions to the hospital and to facilitate where possible, early discharge through the Dudley Respiratory Assessment Service.
The post holder will be required to participate in an on-call rota. This rota is currently on a 1 in 8.5 basis and is paid at category A level, which currently attracts a supplement of 5%.
