Description:
This appointment to Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an important part of its strategy to remain a preferred provider to local Health Authorities and Clinical Commissioning Groups across a wide range of hospital services.
We are looking for a Trauma and orthopaedic surgeon with a subspeciality interest in foot and ankle surgery to meet the needs of the department.
The successful candidates will work in partnership with a forward looking and enthusiastic Orthopaedic department to deliver comprehensive care to our patients. The role will be developed to support the needs of the department. There will be a 1:8 weekend and 1:4 week day on call commitment at the Basingstoke site. This role will work across all three sites
The clinical duties will include those normally expected for an Orthopaedic Trauma service in the Trauma & Orthopaedic Department of any large acute District General Hospital in the United Kingdom (level 2 trauma centre)
Consultants have a continuing commitment to their patients and for the proper functioning of the Department. The post holder will be required to undertake administrative and managerial duties and exert leadership as necessary to fulfil this responsibility.
The post holder’s timetable can be drawn up by mutual consent, to satisfy the needs of the service and of the successful applicants. This will be conducted by mutual agreement between the post holders, the Clinical Director for Orthopaedics and the Divisional Medical Director.
The Consultant will have support from a Speciality Co-ordinator / Secretary, and generic administrative support.
Ideally the appointee will hold a current driving licence.
A recent reconfiguration of Trauma & Orthopaedic service at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in December 2019 resulted in the provision of all Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery on the Basingstoke site, and the provision of arthroplasty surgery on the Winchester site.
This job description is designed to assist post holders with understanding what is expected of them in their role. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust may ask them to undertake other duties, as required, which are not necessarily specified on the job description but which are commensurate with the grade of the post.
The job description itself may be amended from time to time in consultation with the post holder, within the scope and general level of responsibility attached to the post
