Description:
The Thames Valley Vascular Network (TVVN) provides care to a population of just over 2.2million across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire & Berkshire. The Network consists of three NHS trusts:
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT)
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT)
Royal Berkshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (RBHFT)
The trusts work collaboratively to centralise elective major arterial surgery & non-elective surgery at John Radcliffe Hospital (OUHFT) whilst maintaining day case surgery, outpatient appointments at local hospitals in Buckinghamshire & Berkshire as well as some local inpatient treatment & review where appropriate.
The postholder will be employed by OUHFT. It is expected that they will adhere to the local policies of all trusts when delivering services there; working collaboratively with colleagues cross the Network to develop effective & efficient patient pathways.
The successful applicant will join a team of nine consultant vascular surgeons, eight consultant interventional radiologists & seven vascular clinical nurse specialists within the TVVN. We seek an individual who will work closely these colleagues, along with local GPs across the network to develop local services & develop a streamlined pathway for vascular patients requiring inpatient care in Oxford. For further details please refer to the job description & person specification or contact Miss Emma Wilton, Clinical Lead for Vascular Surgery, OUHFT as below.
The postholder’s duties will be in the John Radcliffe Hospital and cover for the Thames Valley Vascular Network hospitals. The postholder will be expected to cover the full range of elective and emergency endovascular and open surgery in Oxford. Rarely this may involve the management of paediatric cases. They will work within a team which covers Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire patients and will be expected to provide cross cover for leave. The department runs a Consultant of the Week arrangement for the on-call cover and the responsibility for all in-patients rests with the Consultant of the week when the post holder is off site.
All aspects of vascular surgery are undertaken by the vascular surgical department with most common procedures:
Aortic disorders – Open and endovascular procedures undertaken including complex aortic repairs. Close collaboration with cardiac service to offer a comprehensive service
Carotid endarterectomy – one of the busiest centres for surgical treatment of carotid disease including carotid stenting
Complex management of peripheral vascular disease including diabetic foot disorder – strong link with the Oxford Bone infection unit and OCDEM to offer a comprehensive diabetic foot service
Management of Venous disease – We provide a tertiary deep venous service with a robust MDT and treatment, using primarily endovascular techniques, for deep venous disorders.
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research. The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
