POSITION SUMMARY: This position will focus on the critical evaluation of current logistical and operational processes within a Client site to recommend best-fit solutions for improvement.
Working as part of a project team, the Consultant will be able to work well with others to set objectives, communicate findings, plan for, and negotiate challenges. They will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to consistently meet deadlines and deliver an on-time, on-budget project. They will be a highly organized individual with clear visual, written and verbal communications through which they will provide insight and advise Clients in their decision-making around distribution center operations designs.
The Consultant will identify, evaluate and make use of specialist knowledge, particularly around material-handling systems, in order to design supplier-agnostic solutions which maximize productivity, reduce excess costs and enhance the general operations within a Client site. This will be supported by the Consultant’s cognisance of inventory management, picking, order processing and other Client processes. They will also have basic knowledge and understanding around Warehouse Management (WMS), Control (WCS) and Execution (WES) systems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with evidence of strong performance in engineering, logistics, and operations
    WORKING CONDITIONS: When duties are performed in a typical office environment, extended periods of sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen will be required. Also required is the ability to talk and hear, in person and by telephone; use of hands to handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; and ability to reach with hands and arms. Associates are frequently required to walk and stand. The noise level in this work environment is usually quiet. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
    When travelling to Client sites, essential requirements of this position may require physical presence in various environments and locations. Physical stamina may be required for prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and/or working in cramped quarters. Exposure to potentially dangerous tools and equipment amidst a variety of building materials is probable, as is occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment can vary from being relatively quiet, to moderate, to excessive. Safety shoes or boots may be required in certain situations. Additional safety clothing including gloves, hardhats, and devices to protect eyes, mouth, or hearing, will be worn as necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Storing, gathering, and analyzing data from stakeholders using external services and tools, i.e. MS Excel, MS Access, Tableau, Splunk, etc., as well as Fortna’s own proprietary tools, to assist in the building, maintaining and driving the evolution of solutions
  • Supporting delivery of solutions including business process redesign, distribution center (DC) design, organizational design, etc. through manipulation, analysis and interpretation of complex data sets relating to the Client’s business.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports, and other visualisations, for internal and external audiences using business analytics reporting tools, i.e. Power BI, ensuring accuracy and quality in all work performed.
  • Developing strong logical reasoning capabilities in order to recommend solutions and communicate them succinctly and persuasively to stakeholders with discretion and consideration.
  • Facilitating meetings within a team-environment that incorporate structured problem-solving techniques while encouraging creativity.
  • Effectively collaborating with the internal team to analyse and advise on value creation within the data to prompt best-fit solution design and implementation.
  • Developing industry-specific commercial awareness and financial acumen to aid in producing, monitoring and delivering financial budgets and forecasts for current and future operations, as well as business case design.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team, to support high levels of performance while demonstrating leadership qualities and aspirations to succeed as a team.
  • Developing specific technical expertise, e.g., Network Modeling, DC Design, Operations Implementation, etc. and be willing to develop skills around relevant systems.
  • Researching as requested and broadening research and knowledge management skills.
  • Writing and contributing to white papers
