Consultant in Obstetrics and Benign Gynaecology
This is a great opportunity to take up a Consultant position in Obstetrics and Gynaecology based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust. The appointee will join the existing team of Gynaecologists to continue development of the Gynaecology Service within the region. We are looking for someone who is dynamic and enthusiastic with a range of skills to compliment and develop our services.
You will be part of a team of 17 consultants delivering a benign gynaecology clinics and theatre sessions at the Royal Cornwall and West Cornwall hospitals with access to fully integrated theatres. You will deliver high quality Obstetric care, providing an antenatal clinic and ensuring excellent care of women on the labour ward.
The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department currently has 10 general Gynaecology Consultants, 4 Gynaecology Oncology Consultants, 3 Obstetric Consultants, 2 Associate Specialists and 1 Specialty Doctor. This speciality provides obstetrics and gynaecology services to the women of Cornwall.
The main Obstetric and Gynaecology unit is at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, two miles west of Truro, where the majority of the specialties activities occur. Outpatient clinics and operating lists are also held at a variety of peripheral units in Penzance (West Cornwall), Falmouth, Redruth, St. Austell and Newquay.
RCHT provides the maternity service for the majority of residents in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and delivers approximately 4,500 women making it one of the busiest maternity units in the South West peninsula. Antenatal and postnatal care is provided in a variety of settings and locations including Health Centres, GP Practices, Children’s’ Centres, the Birth Centres and at home.
The specialty is actively involved in the delivery of the education programme of the University of Exeter Medical School.
