Description:
The post advertised for a Consultant Paediatrician is a replacement for a substantive post to start from May 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). This represents an exciting opportunity to join an established Paediatric Consultant team working at Queen Elizabeth hospital Gateshead. Although this is a General Paediatric consultant post candidates with an additional special interest are encouraged to apply. This might include applicants with a CCT in Community Paediatrics who are looking for a hybrid post. There is also an opportunity for developing leadership roles within the department.
The post has up to 10PAs available which includes contributing to the general Paediatric service with some daytime support of the acute service, general Paediatric outpatient clinics and participating in the acute Paediatric consultant on-call rota at the QE Gateshead. Participating in the acute Paediatric consultant on-call rota would include covering the 8 cot Level 1 SCBU as well as general Paediatrics.
Candidates must hold the MRCPCH (UK) or equivalent qualification and have CCT in General Paediatrics or be in an approved training program within 6 months of expected CCT date at time of interview.
Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

We now employ around 4,800 staff and currently provide 444 hospital beds across the Gateshead region.
Our values should be the ‘golden thread’ which runs through everything we do – they are the core of who we are. Our five values can easily be remembered by the simple acronym ICORE; Innovation, Care, Openness, Respect, Engagement.
We have a number of staff networks including the BAME network, D-Ability network, LGBTQ+ Network and the Women’s Network, to challenge us and help us to constantly improve. Our armed forces network is one of our emerging networks.
The health and wellbeing of our staff is one of our highest priorities, and we offer a range of support and initiatives as part of our ‘Balance’ programme balancegateshead.com to cater for our diverse workforce, so that your individual needs can be supported, allowing you a happy and healthy working experience with us.
