Description:
Applications are invited for a full time Consultant Radiologist with a sub-specialist interest in Breast Imaging. This unique opportunity offers a varied and exciting role combining diagnostic breast imaging and aspects of general radiology.
The Breast Unit at the Royal United Hospital is a large symptomatic breast service and acts as a referral centre for the both the Avon and the Wiltshire breast screening units. This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative radiologist with high quality breast imaging skills to join the team of 5 breast surgeons, 2 breast radiologists and an associate specialist breast clinician. We are currently expanding our workforce and are providing comprehensive training for 2 consultant radiographers and a breast clinician and would welcome applicants with an interest in teaching and education.
The Royal United Hospital has a very forward looking General Radiology department, with approval for significant expansion of the radiology service and we would welcome a colleague with high quality radiology skills to join the dynamic team.
Clinical Duties: The holder of this post will be a Consultant Radiologist with a subspecialist interest in Diagnostic Breast Imaging, together with general radiology sessions if required. There will be access to breast screening with the NHS breast screening programme based at North Bristol Trust.
The post will be based at the RUH in Bath.
The post holder would be expected to provide diagnostic breast imaging in all modalities (mammography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI). They would provide breast interventional procedures with image guided biopsies (including vacuum assisted biopsy), localisations, placement of marker clips during neo-adjuvant therapies and contribute to the imaging first outpatient referral service.
The post holder will participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Breast Service Clinical Lead.
A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected, and completion of diaries for CME is essential. It is also essential to have an annual appraisal. The Trust has the required arrangements in place to ensure that all surgeons have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports surgeons going through the revalidation process.
The trust offers a mentorship scheme to all new consultants to help them settle into work as easily as possible.
