Your Role
The communications networking industry is undergoing transformative change and Ciena is leading the charge with a fresh wave of innovation, using converged multi-layer transport and packet technologies. As a trusted partner to over 1,000 customers in 60+ countries, Ciena builds networks that fundamentally change the way our customers compete.
Ciena’s Services team is seeking an experienced subsea network engineering prime who can install or upgrade Subsea Networks remotely or onsite. The focus will be on system design, nodal and network engineering, nodal and network testing, developing design and test documentation, EMOPS & ATPS. Position also has flexibility to work remote
Responsibilities
- Implements capacity and technology upgrades of Ciena Equipment on Customer’s In-Service networks without impacting the services provided to the end user. This includes, but is not limited to, Channel Adds, Node Insertions, Traffic Migrations, and HW/SW Upgrades.
- Plan, develop and execute on Customer modernization plans for evolving customer networks via the EMOP process. Create and own Engineering Method of Procedures (EMOP), supports field execution remotely of these modernization projects.
- Ensure proposed solutions are technically viable, meet customer requirements and provide maximum benefit to Ciena. Deliver and own Network Engineering documentation for Customers via the Detailed Network Design service offering.
- Validates that the actions taken by the Assigned Project Team are executed properly as per the steps detailed in the Engineering Method of Procedure (EMOP). Ensures the Customer’s network is operating in a stable state as designed during Maintenance Window activities.
- Working with engineering consultants and the customer, generates quality detailed low level design documentation that reflects the subsea network design requirements.
- Generates and maintains subsea network deployment pack.
- Produces detailed subsea engineering MOP’s for activities including network & service migration, service provisioning, service integration, etc.
- Design, lead and execute user acceptance testing (UAT) producing detailed test-plan’s and acceptance criteria.
- Carry out, and lead, customer funded, software validation testing. Develop detailed test-plan, entry and exit criteria, results analysis and agreed sign off criteria.
- Carry out, customer funded, solution validation testing including as appropriate 3rd party interoperability testing.
- Design, develop & test bespoke templates & scripts, for Ciena subsea customers.
- Designs and delivers bespoke technical workshops for both internal Ciena groups, and customers as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.Sc. Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field of discipline
- 2-6 years experience with Live network migration and telecommunication consulting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to accept continuous unusual work hours, high stress maintenance windows.
- Ability to handle stressful situations during maintenance window activities and solve complex technical issues under the stress of time constraints, requires nerve of steel.
- Excellent in problem solving down to the design level and then translating that back to Engineering for resolution
- Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Ability to make timely and accurate assessments of complex situations
- Ability to make decisions independently and execute those decisions in a timely manner
- Self-Motivated and Customer Focused
- Good Customer Service interaction skills
