POSITION OVERVIEW

WFOX TV Jacksonville is looking for a Content Coordinator & Creator who will be part of the Content Center. The Content Center is responsible for managing the flow of news information, coordinating news coverage, and assigning stories to reporters and photographers. Additionally, the Content Center manages the station’s digital platforms – writing locally-focused stories for our website and social media sites. This position requires a keen news sense, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.A. Degree in Journalism, Communications, or other field of study
  • Two years’ experience with website content creation and social media platforms with clear, measurable results

Responsibilities:

  • Story Development: Monitor news sources, including wire services, social media, scanners, and other outlets, to identify and develop news stories.
  • Assignment Coordination: Assign news stories to reporters and photographers, ensuring that coverage aligns with the station’s editorial priorities and audience interests.
  • Newsroom Management: Manage the newsroom operations during assigned shifts, including directing the coverage of breaking news and coordinating live shots.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with producers, anchors, and other newsroom staff to plan and execute newscasts, special reports, and coverage of major events.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for reporters and photographers in the field, providing guidance, resources, and support as needed.
  • Research: Conduct background research on news stories to provide context and additional information to reporters and producers.
  • Logistics: Coordinate the deployment of newsroom resources to ensure comprehensive coverage.
  • Quality Control: Review and edit reporters’ scripts and video packages to ensure accuracy, fairness, and adherence to the station’s editorial standards.
  • Breaking News: Respond quickly to breaking news situations, making critical decisions about coverage and mobilizing the news team as needed.
  • Physical demands and essential physical abilities include: a combination of physical work (standing, walking, lifting and carrying items such as laptop computers, pulling file drawers).
  • Sedentary demands include document review and computer use, including ability to manipulate fingers to operate computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Expected to work under deadline constraints and meet precise deadlines (including self-imposed deadlines).
  • Routine interruptions and unforeseen assignments are to be expected.
