JOB SUMMARY

This is an exciting time to be joining our Publishing Group as a Content Editor as we develop new digital products for our customers.
The Publishing Group is responsible for the development, maintenance and production of the UKHO’s extensive range of navigational and situational awareness Publications. These publications are online/digital, in bespoke apps and printed. This task encompasses the full spectrum of activity, from product updating and delivery, to the development of new products to meet the changing needs of our customers and ensure safety of life at sea. Content Editors continuously update and develop this extensive range of Publications with support from Subject Matter Experts, users of these Publications and technological advances.
Maintaining our range of Publications is very much a team effort and Content Editors can be expected to contribute at every stage of the process whilst liaising closely with a wide range of other colleagues. From researching and assessing the impact of new information, updating publications, editing imagery through to preparing Publications for printing or digital distribution.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a varied role which could see post holders working within projects to develop new products, updating existing publications or even assisting with the withdrawal of legacy products. The Post Holder can expect to undertake the following tasks routinely:

  • Reviewing and updating maritime information within publications with the support of relevant Subject Matter Experts.
  • Drafting updates to publications to strict timelines and targets.
  • Undertaking research to support updates to publications, such as investigating new ports, facilities, or regulations.
  • Assessing new and existing imagery for inclusion in publications. This can include editing of digital imagery using specialist software.
  • Working to a number of Publication Schedules to ensure our products are updated, verified and published to strict timescales.
  • Undertaking proofing and verification checks prior to Publication/Distribution.
  • Liaising with internal and external Customers to answer queries, develop our understanding of the market and broaden our customer base.
  • Continuously developing their knowledge of the maritime sector and supporting colleagues to do the same.
