The Modern Languages Department of the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts is seeking to expand its list of contract or on-call instructors in Japanese.
Workload is assigned each year based on available sections.
Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
The Department of Modern Languages in the Faculty of Language, Literature, and Performing Arts is seeking to expand its list of contract instructors qualified to teach Japanese.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a contract instructor in the Modern Languages Department you will:
- plan and teach lessons based on curriculum guidelines;
- prepare necessary teaching materials, quizzes, tests, exams, etc.;
- assess and evaluate student competencies;
- provide academic advice to learners;
- deliver quality learner-centered instruction;
- maintain currently in the field;
- hold regular office hours;
- maintain currency in the field through regular professional development.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
Successful candidates will:
- possess a Master’s Degree in a field relevant to the teaching of Japanese or equivalent experience;
- possess native-level competence in Japanese;
- have a minimum of two years’ experience teaching Japanese to adults; experience at the post-secondary level is an asset;
- show evidence of an ability to work effectively as part of a team, with excellent communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills;
- demonstrate initiative, creativity, and self-directedness;
- show evidence of ongoing professional development.
