Description:

The post holder will be professionally responsible and accountable to the Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer (CDAO)
They will have strong working relationships with colleagues in the Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer function and across the health economy in South West England.

They will assist the CDAO when necessary and contribute to delivering the statutory function successfully. Those responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing and reviewing incidents and/or concerns relating to controlled drugs across the health and social care economy and ensuring action is taken as appropriate;
  • Managing and reviewing quarterly controlled drugs occurrence reports from designated bodies and acting as appropriate;
  • Developing and facilitating the Local Intelligence Network as required;
  • Managing the process for the destruction of controlled drugs in primary care providers;
  • Managing the monitoring of the safe management and use of controlled drugs in the South West England health and social care economy; and
  • Deputising for the Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer where necessary.

They will contribute to the quality improvement and patient safety work through the CDAO and medication safety agendas.
As a Controlled Drugs Senior Professional Manager the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across NHS England South West Region to develop and deliver the statutory function.
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining good working relationships with a broad range of partners including health regulators, police forces, ICBs and independent health providers.
The post will be responsible for the effective management of a portfolio of cases. Including the provision of advice and challenge to external investigators and NHS England colleagues.
The post is responsible for providing professional expertise to the outcome of the business processes for the Department or Directorate.
The post holder will define current processes, facilitate discussions and advise colleagues as to how best practice might be adopted in the definition of future processes, document those processes as they are agreed and oversee their delivery.
