Location: Cochrane, Alberta
Summary of position: Reporting to the Chief Financial officer, the Controller will be accountable for the overall management of the finance department, including financial and regulatory reporting, accounting operations, and budgeting and planning functions. This role is responsible for establishing and managing financial policies and procedures, ensuring the integrity of accounting practices, and maintain accurate fiscal records along with providing leadership to the payroll department and ensuring compliance with payroll practices and the processing of all payrolls for the Groups of Companies.
Accountabilities
- Manage and oversee the full cycle accounting operations in a multi company/multi-currency environment, including the supervision of accounting staff
- Maintain accounting practices, processes and internal controls to ensure that reported results comply with applicable financial reporting standards
- Manage and assist in the month end process including reconciliation of accounts, review of operations and investigate discrepancies, and related preparation of timely, accurate and complete financial statements.
- Manage collection of accounts receivable and assist with collection efforts as needed.
- Assist with the preparation and management of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Coordinate the information to the external auditors for the annual audit.
- Assist with cash flow monitoring, debt levels, payments and calculation with debt covenants.
- Comply with provincial/state, local and federal government reporting requirements, filings and related payments.
- Develop processes and procedures to streamline internal processes for accounting.
- Act as a financial advisor across the group of companies, driving alignment between financial goals and operational strategies.
- Completing all other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer and President and Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance.
- A recognized accounting designation (CPA).
- 10 years’ experience in cost accounting and financial leadership within consulting companies.
- Experience as a Controller for multiple companies in Canada and the USA.
- Proven ability to prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets and year end documents.
- Experience in a leadership role as a controller with direct reports.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Good process driven procedures.
- Detail-oriented, meticulous, and display strong organizational skills.
- Experience with analyzing data to guide strategic planning; and
- Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.
