FINANCE

Purves Redmond Limited (PRL) is an innovative and entrepreneurial insurance brokerage and employees benefits consulting firm based in Toronto with offices in Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal.
We have an exciting opportunity in our Toronto office for a Controller. This role ensures that PRL’s financial practices are compliant with regulatory requirements, supports strategic planning, and drives financial efficiency across the organization.

Responsibilities:

THE KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION ARE:

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;
  • Analyze financial data and trends to provide insights to the executive team for decision-making;
  • Monitor key financial metrics and KPIs, providing recommendations to improve financial performance;
  • Manage the general ledger and ensure accuracy in all financial reporting.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including preparing detailed budgets and forecasts across all business units within the organization;
  • Track actual performance against the budget, explaining variances and adjusting forecasts as needed;
  • Provide financial projections and scenario analysis to support business planning and strategic initiatives.
  • Accounting Operations:
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations;
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting principles, laws, and regulations;
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the PRL’s assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with insurance industry regulations and financial reporting standards;
  • Manage the preparation and filing of regulatory reports and tax returns;
  • Work with external auditors and regulatory bodies during audits and inspections.
  • Financial Systems and Processes
  • Evaluate and implement improvements to processes within PRL’s broker management system and investigate add-ons to improve and streamline the accounting workflow wherever possible;
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records, ensuring they are up-to-date and accessible.
  • Leadership and Team Development
  • Supervise and mentor the finance team, providing guidance and professional development opportunities;
  • Foster a culture of financial accountability and transparency across PRL.
