Description:

Our client, a local non-profit with a meaningful and enduring mission, is searching for their new Controller. Reporting to their CFO, the Controller will be a key member of their team. The Controller will lead and manage the financial close and reporting, day to day accounting operations and grant compliance. This critical Controller position will also assist the CFO to execute the organization’s strategic planning processes and lead the evolution of finance and accounting and related systems to support organizational growth and mitigate risk. The core duties for this fulfilling and challenging Controller role will include:
Overseeing the close and the preparation of the financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Supervise and mentor the finance and accounting team as well as provide training on financial policies and procedures
Supporting the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic plans.
Responsibility for the general ledger to complete and accurate financial records.
Work with the CFO regarding cash management and ensuring liquidity to meet operational needs
Preparation of financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements.
Maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax filings and grant reporting requirements.
Managing the payroll process and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
Oversee government contract billing and Medicaid billing while working closely with program staff
Work closely with leadership on grant budget proposals and provide financial insights and analysis related to grant performance and compliance.
Leading the annual audit process and working with external auditors
Assist the CFO with Board and Audit Committee reporting

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
CPA strongly desired and prior public accounting is a plus
10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management
Strong knowledge of GAAP
Experience with government contract billing and Medicaid billing a strong plus.
Proven ability with financial systems - QuickBooks is a plus.
