Description:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller (18 Month Limited Term), has a clear mandate to enhance the Division’s operational efficiency, financial controls and financial performance through partnering with leadership to develop and deliver on strategies and financial reporting, consolidation and systems and processes designed to enhance controls and the division’s asset base. The Controller will ensure risks are considered and managed, ensure safeguarding of assets and information, provide analysis, support and advice on the financial impact of business decisions, and vetting commercial agreements for financial terms, accounting treatment and risk.
While achieving these objectives the controller will be involved in providing leadership by ensuring a high level of financial management performance is achieved by the division’s finance team in its various businesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides energetic leadership, a “can-do” attitude and guidance to team by fostering high performance and positive workplace atmosphere. Provides active development plans and mentoring for the group to promote upward mobility and a desired work environment.
  • Manages and maintains efficient month end, quarter end and year-end processes for close, consolidation (segmented) and reporting.
  • Supports each operating business by completing and reviewing financial variance analysis.
  • The incumbent must ensure that the management team has both timely and accurate financial reports, metrics (KPI’s) and analyses as well as the understanding of that information to effectively use it in their daily decision-making. A review of existing reporting will be undertaken and a willingness to perform detailed work, “deep-dive” tasks is required.
  • Prepares, reviews and is responsible for the external audit process and deliverables for the Marine Group operating companies. Prepares external ASPE financial statements for reporting and audit.
  • Regularly reviews, analyzes, and improves internal processes. Assists in setting and maintaining key finance policies and internal controls to improve workflow and overall effectiveness.
  • Ensures that financial data and reporting is timely and accurate, and appropriate internal controls are in place, documented and fully implemented to meet or exceed all industry, regulatory and corporate governance guidelines.
  • Support Systems implementation projects and continually review/improve internal processes and systems to achieve higher cost efficiency, data capture and relevance and strong internal controls.
  • Plays an active leadership role in monitoring, influencing and reducing operating costs through reporting, analysis and identification of potential areas where savings can be created.
  • Ensures a clear, effective, value-added relationship is established between financial services, the Finance Business Partner(s) and operations.
