Reports to: Director of Finance
Employment Status: Temporary, Full-time (20 months)

Annual Salary: $94,307.20- $113,339.20

Schedule: In office, Monday to Friday 40 hours/week

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller is responsible for managing the accounting of YSB’s revenues, expenditures, assets and liabilities. The incumbent also manages all external and internal financial reporting, including the preparation of the annual audited financial statements for the organization.
What you will do:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’ degree in Accounting, Commerce or equivalent
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA)

Experience:

  • 5 – 7 years experience in accounting, analysis and budgeting
  • Experience in the not for profit sector preferably in reporting to Province of Ontario, municipal and other public funders
  • In depth understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and their application to not-for-profit organizations
  • Extensive experience in financial analysis, forecasting and analysis of complex issues
  • Experience in providing strategic analysis, advice and recommendations to senior management.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing a team of professional staff to achieve performance targets.
  • Ability to plan, manage and evaluate a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Strong leadership skills and change management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and consensus building skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to initiate and develop relationships across the organization (including at management level), responding to queries as necessary, and the ability to create and structure narrative reports in a professional style and to explain and discuss financial matters with non-financial staff
  • Oral and written fluency in English essential; Fluency in French will be considered an asset

  • MS Excel - Advanced

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic goals and objectives in order to meet the reporting/forecasting requirements associated with YSB programs initiatives and ensuring appropriate financial controls and procedures are in place to enable timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Recommend and develop appropriate policy direction in the area of budget for the department.
  • Evaluate financial systems and operational procedures and identification of efficiencies and deployment of best business practices.
  • Provide leadership and expertise on financial projects, including new system implementation and upgrades, and provide and manage financial resources seconded to project work
  • Act as an alternate signing authority for the organization when the Director of Finance is not available
  • Any other duties as assigne
