Controls and Instrumentation Technician

The above vacancy exists at our On-Sites, Vanderbijlpark Facility, reporting to the Instrumentation Manager. Suitably qualified candidates who meet the requirements of this role are invited to apply for this vacancy.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. A minimum of Grade 12 qualification;
2. Must be Instrumentation Red Seal Trade tested or have a relevant technical qualification (S4);
3. Must have 5 years of experience on heavy industry Instrumentation and Control equipment;
4. Must have 3 years PLC/DCS experience on one or more of the following systems, Allen Bradley PLC’S, Siemens PCS7 or ABB 800XA;
5. Be proficient with Aspen IP21, DMC or similar;
6. Must have project management experience;
7. Willing to work overtime as and when required;
8. Ability to work collaboratively with plant operators, process engineers and plant management;
9. Knowledge of MS office suite particularly Excel and Word;
10. Must have basic knowledge of NOSA and ISO Standards;
    11.Must have a valid driver’s license (Code B)

The Controls and Instrumentation Technician will be responsible for instrumentation maintenance on all Air Products facilities. The key responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:
1. Maintain all plant instrumentation and controls, including troubleshooting, installation and repairs.
2. Ensuring strict adherence to Health & Safety protocols, including contractor management in line with AP health and safety requirements;
3. Responsible for Control System Engineering;
4. Actively manage plant projects when required to do so in line with AP best practices;
5. Ensuring effective and efficient communication.
6. Assist in providing support to Operations teams to solve and resolve process operating problems including, plant efficiency, reliability, and operability issues;
7. Implement and maintain advanced control initiatives;
8. Improves productivity of process operations by implementation of advanced controls and IP 21 changes.
