JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

At American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM), we are seeking an individual with strong work behaviors and experience in Controls Engineering to join our exceptional team in Detroit, MI, USA. As a Controls Engineer at AAM, you will have the unique opportunity to work on sophisticated machinery and automation, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to design, test, install, and maintain world-class manufacturing systems.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Design electrical drawings, ladder logic, HMI programs, and integrate Safety PLC control systems.
  • Apply your knowledge of safety in a manufacturing environment to ensure flawless controls design.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers to ensure compliance with AAM equipment specifications.
  • Evaluate new equipment by performing testing procedures to determine their suitability for implementation.
  • Provide support to the Manufacturing Engineering team in controls and equipment design.
  • Apply your foundational understanding of mechanical systems to understand controls systems.
  • Use AutoCad Electrical for the development and modification of electrical designs.
  • Apply your basic knowledge of fluid power systems to optimize machinery performance.
  • Demonstrate your understanding of robot integration and programming to enhance automation processes.
  • Apply your problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve any technical issues that may arise.
  • Adhere to project schedules to ensure efficient project completion.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment, while also being capable of working independently.
  • Provide support to the plant maintenance and controls teams.
  • Mentor and train entry-level controls engineers and students.
  • Apply your expertise in Allen Bradley PLC, Servo Controllers, HMI products, and software to improve control systems.
  • Apply your basic understanding of NFPA & OSHA regulations to ensure compliance.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field from an accredited college/university or Trade School.
  • 2+ years of experience in a controls engineering position.
