KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES:
- Provide a high level of automation & and control knowledge on troubleshooting communication issues between field devices, communication networks, process lines, PLC, and SCADA systems;
- Program PLC/ SCADA; review, analyze, and update existing programs as required through approval channels;
- Create new reports and modify existing reports;
- Account for identified issue resolution, follow-up actions, and communication to all stakeholders including the appropriate Plant Teams, Managers and Supervisors;
- Troubleshoot, install, repair, and maintain electrical, and electronic equipment, instrumentation, automation devices, as well as computerized/controls systems (HMI, PCs, PLCs, VFDs, vision systems & network) related to production/material handling/utility machinery and systems;
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on complicated and/or recurring automation failure modes. This will include reaching out to 3rd parties, performing risk analysis, evaluating potential causes, and assessing data;
- Responsible for implementing and executing a robust system for the backup of all programs and associated parameters for all automation devices with the most secure and effective way to store them
- Responsible for setting up and implementing a calibration process for entire instrumentation and automation devices and their control components
- Responsible for Change Management by documenting all modifications and updates on automation-related programs, parameters, and devices on PLCs, CMMS, and other company-provided tools and portals;
- Support, organize and maintain drawings and specifications of process control narratives, P&ID’s and schematics, instrumentation and calibration, loop diagrams and I/O lists through PLC, CMMS, Maintenance Library, and other company-provided tools and portals

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge/Skill/Experience):
Completion of a university degree in Engineering, with a specialization in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics
- Minimum 5 years of direct control automation experience
- In-depth knowledge and experience with PLCs (Allen Bradley; Siemens), Controls, and PCs · Possess technical capabilities to troubleshoot industrial automation devices in a timely manner
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical periodicals, procedures, electrical schematics, process & and instrumentation drawings, control panel drawings, engineering drawings, and government regulations
- Strong knowledge of PLC / VFDs / HMI Programming, industrial networks configuration/troubleshooting, MySQL, MSSQL, and AutoCAD skills are necessary
- Knowledge of Motion Control: Primarily Siemens, Allen-Bradley and Robot Programming: Fanuc, ABB, Siemens would be an asset · Strong working knowledge of servo motor controls
- Good understanding of mechanical, hydraulics, and pneumatics applications · Strong computer (MS Office) skills
- Able to take technical direction, as well as work independently and/or in a team environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as highly organized and results oriented
- Strong analytical skills including troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills to effectively lead teams to quickly identify issues, causes, and sustainable corrective action
Responsibilities:
The Controls Specialist is responsible for process improvement, PLC, robotic, HMI programming, instrumentation and calibration, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintaining backup programming and parameters of all automation devices. The individual will also support as a back-up Maintenance Supervisor for both emergency and non-emergency situations. This includes regular, off-shift, and weekend coverage as required.
