KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

· Strong background in Vision Guided Robotics and robotic software systems.
· 5-10 years of hands-on experience in PLC programming and industrial robotics applications.
· Proficiency with Fanuc robots, including navigation and menu operations.
· Expertise in commissioning, troubleshooting, and robotic mechanism design.
· Knowledge of automated machine design, including press concepts, part transfer, pick-and-place systems, and end-of-tooling (EOT).
· Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field.
· Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities to resolve technical issues effectively.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate scope changes clearly and effectively.

Responsibilities:

PROJECT / ROLE CONTEXT

ALTEN Canada is seeking a Controls Specialist & Robotics Programmer to support our ongoing project within the automotive manufacturing sector. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, programming, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting advanced control systems. This includes ensuring the safe and efficient operation of robots, primarily Fanuc and Nachi, using PLCs to meet plant automation needs. Key responsibilities also involve collaborating with contractors, supporting system integration, and contributing to the design of automated manufacturing cells and lines.
Location: Brampton, Ontario
Work Policy: On-site; Day shift.
Overtime Requirements: Roughly 10 or more hours per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Develop and implement PLC and robot programs using industry standards.
· Prepare preliminary program deployments using simulations.
· Conduct safety tests, including manual mode operations and security checks, before deployment.
· Adapt programming templates to validate input/output (I/O) systems.
· Perform hands-on programming on the production floor to execute robotic motions as conceptualized during design.
· Run commissioning activities, ensuring safety for contractors and employees.
· Oversee integration of robots and automated systems into the production environment.
· Collaborate with the engineering team to refine and improve robotic and automation solutions.
· Liaise with suppliers and contractors to resolve open issues.
· Provide detailed system design explanations to internal teams and clients.
· Ensure that quality, cost, and delivery commitments for projects are consistently met.
· Maintain comprehensive documentation for programming, system modifications, and project deliverables.
· Recommend and implement emerging technologies and continuous improvement initiatives.
