REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in similar role ideally in production orientated environment, with emphasis on stamping, forming and automated processes using robots
  • Preferably possess an inter-provincial valid Electrician license with knowledge of applicable electrical codes
  • Proficient in electrical CAD systems, preferably AutoCad-2020, to design electrical control panels, power distribution, control system, cabling/wiring and instrumentation.
  • Professional experience selecting proper circuit protectors, disconnect, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware systems, safety components, and other key electrical control components.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards such as NFPA 79, National Electrical code, IEC standards, CEC standards, UL508 and safety standards such as ISO 13849-1 & ISO 12100.
  • Proficient knowledge in Beckhoff, Siemens, Omron, Bosch and Allen Bradley, PILZ control systems and components.
  • Proficient knowledge in EtherCat, FSoE, Profinet, Profisafe, OPC-UA, MQTT, CIP, EIP, Modbus and other field bus communication systems.
  • Firsthand experience in troubleshooting mechanical stamping machines includes electrical, mechanical and control systems.
  • Ability to read process and instrumentation diagrams to create electrical design and schematic.
  • Ability to work within a team environment, at times leading providing guidance and instruction to other team members and actively participate in group meetings.
  • Firsthand experience in Python, C++ programming languages.
  • Firsthand experience in Linux, dockers, SQL DB systems, non-SQL DB systems.
  • Excellent PLC experience in configuring and programming.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to trace wires and faulty components.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft office and data base systems.
  • Ability to understand and interpret stamping controls programs.
  • Ability to identify causes of problems and develop methods to correct these problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and having the ability to relate and communicate well with peers and mentors.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Take part in equipment concept development and carefully balance product specifications, electrical requirements, part selection availability, controls architecture, and costs.
  • Define system interconnect, electrical schematic, and key electrical automation components with other engineering groups to ensure that the design criteria are synchronized within all disciplines are translated into the final design.
  • Provide oversight to vendors on electrical and control related deliverables to ensure adherence to regulatory standards, Martinrea standards, equipment specification and pass field labelling.
  • Design systems with power distribution, controls panels and systems interconnect to meet NFPA79, IEC60204-1, UL508A standards. Design functional safety circuitry as per ISO 13849-1.
  • Troubleshoot, identifying root causes in electrical system, control panel, field electrical devices, instrumentation, and safety interlock circuits issues, providing mitigation techniques as they arise on either in-production systems/machines or improvement/projects.
  • Design, develop and commission machine control systems from concept through implementation.
  • Design industrial control panels, high voltage AC and low voltage AC and low voltage control (24VDC) power distribution and control systems using Beckhoff, Siemens, PILZ, Omron, Allen Bradley, Bosch Rexroth platforms.
  • Provide training when transitioning solutions to the sustaining and production teams and contribute to Martinera’s standards and best practice documents.
  • Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally, must have an maintain a valid passport, travel can be from 5-40% of time, during busy project season can travel up to 50%.
  • Maintain plant controls systems by updating documentation and keeping current backups of all machine control systems.
  • Develop and maintain equipment networks
  • Gain the resident expertise status in all the PLC and HMI systems that Alfield Industries operates
  • Assess why a machine is down by troubleshooting and finding the root cause.
  • Modifying the PLC and the entire periphery to ensure programming robustness and eliminate out of sequence issues.
  • Work with Engineering and Quality department to prevent and solve quality issues from occurring with programming changes and additional safeguards.
  • Install and maintain plant and SCADA equipment
  • Provide controls support and training for plant electricians as required
  • Liaison with engineering department on all equipment modifications
  • Provide support for all departments when launching new programs
  • Maintain plant controls specification and parts list for new equipment
  • Design electrical schematics in AutoCAD format for any equipment changes
  • Responsible to ensure all equipment complies with OSHA standards and requirements
  • Maintain all equipment related software to ensure all revisions are current
  • Develop and maintain critical spare parts list for all key equipment
  • Maintain maintenance laptops to ensure all backups are synchronized
  • Contribute in regular handoff meetings
  • Schedule meetings in order to accomplish projects
  • Complete duties and tasks assigned by immediate Supervisor and Management
  • Assist plant leadership in driving and accomplishing key performance indicators.
  • Assist in the hiring process and new associate orientation.
