Job Description

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is looking for a casual Cook in the Nutritional Services department. The incumbents will be under the direction of the Nutritional Services Supervisor. Your duties and responsibilities include:

  • Cooking menu items according to the recipe/instructions and daily production schedule maintaining a high standard of quality in food preparation
  • Recording temperatures as per department and industry standards, labeling and storing foods appropriately in the designated areas
  • Decanting food items according to production requirements and delivering food to the belt line as designated
  • Maintaining sanitation and safety standards in accordance with applicable revisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, professional standards and guidelines set by Public Health for the City of Toronto, and CAMH corporate and departmental Policies and Procedures
  • Assisting in creating and testing recipes and development of menus
  • Reporting issues to the Supervisor and resolving routine issues within scope of responsibility
  • Supporting and participating in risk management, patient safety, and quality improvement activities departmentally and organization-wide; participating in production meetings.

You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable standards and requirements. This position involves shift rotation from Monday to Sunday. This position is primarily located at the Queen Street Site.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will have completion of an accredited program from a recognized institution, combined with 1 year of experience in quantity food preparation in a large facility, preferably in a health care setting and must possess inter-provincial chef’s papers (Red Seal). Certificate in food safety and sanitation is required. The candidate shall have effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organization skills. Basic knowledge of therapeutic diets is a must. Knowledge of and the ability to follow the Safety protocols, policies and procedures of the department is required. You must have the ability to follow detailed written & oral instructions and must be able to cope with the physical demands of the job. You will be knowledgeable about and demonstrate some proficiency in the use of Windows based computer applications. The ability to work both independently and as a team member with limited direct supervision is required. Ability to work with diverse clients and staff is required.
