Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
The College of the Arts at the University of the Fraser Valley invites applicants for a part-time temporary non-teaching faculty career development coordinator appointment to begin January 2, 2024, until the return of the incumbent.
Responsibilities of the appointment include the coordination of field practicum placements for all CRIM 281 and CRIM 480 students in the Criminal Justice diploma and degree programs. Specifically, the Coordinator is responsible for:
- Career Development Coordinator
- The overall placement, supervision, and review of the progress of all students in CRIM 281 and CRIM 480 in the Winter 2025 and Fall 2025 semesters.
- Place all CRIM 281 and CRIM 480 students in settings that provide a meaningful and rich practicum experience in line with the students’ learning and career goals.
- Ensure that each student is aware of all requirements, policies, and procedures associated with the practicum
- Organize and facilitate practicum orientations
- Organize and facilitate mid-semester seminars to discuss student progress
- Field Practice – Community Outreach
- Ensure that all field supervisors are aware of all requirements, policies, and procedures associated with practicum
- Maintain existing and establish new relationships with criminal justice or related agencies
- Support and liaise with field supervisors to ensure quality placements and supervision.
As time permits, the Coordinator might be asked to assist with placements in other Arts programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant must have a Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferably in Criminology or Criminal Justice), and current working knowledge of the criminal justice system and the field, including government and non-governmental agencies, organizations, and service providers. Experience in field placement is an asset. We are seeking candidates with excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, ability to effectively coordinate many students and placements simultaneously, and the ability to be highly adaptable, take initiative, and work well under pressure.
