REQUIREMENTS
- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)
- B.S.W. or B.A. in relevant social science program and a minimum of two years direct program delivery experience (working with youth who use substances, experience being unhoused, or are involved with the justice system or MCFD).
- This position must meet all qualifications of a Youth Counsellor position.
- Professional knowledge such as Drug and Alcohol, Suicide prevention and Intervention,Child and Youth Abuse and Neglect, etc.
- Knowledge of adolescent development, and family dynamics.
- Working knowledge of counselling, assessment and intervention strategies related to substance use, suicide prevention, abuse and neglect of children and youth, etc.
- Positive attitude toward resolution of substance use issues within a biopsychosocial framework.
- Experience leading and supervising a team (preferably within a substance use outreach services setting).
- Flexible, self-motivated team player.
- Experience in assessment and documentation.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity towards cultural, religious and gender-based diversity issues.
- Computer literate, using a variety of software.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set goals and prioritize.
- Must exhibit personal maturity and sound judgment, have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to find creative, collaborative, positive solutions to challenges and deal tactfully with sensitive issues.
- Valid first aid certificate.
- A clear driver’s abstract and use of a reliable vehicle insured for business use ($2 million liability)
Responsibilities:
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of the Nexus program. The Coordinator provides direction, support, and day-to-day supervision to the team of Youth Counsellors, ensuring that planning, coordination, documentation, reporting, program development, and evaluation are done in a timely and appropriate manner. Up to half of the Coordinator’s time is spent providing direct counselling support to youth. The Coordinator also acts as the Site Safety Officer for Nexus.
JOB DUTIES
- Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Nexus program and assists in the development and implementation of all program plans, goals/objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Ensures that services are effectively and efficiently delivered in accordance with BGC’s mandate, the program’s mandate and all policies and other legal and budgetary requirements.
- Provides strong team leadership through role modeling, support, and communication with the goal of building effective working relationships.
- Provides day-to-day supervision of the Nexus team, including counselling supervision of their work with youth.
- Assists with the recruitment and on-boarding of Youth Counsellors and is responsible for ongoing performance management.
- Participates with the Director in problem solving personnel issues.
- Ensures all contract deliverables are met or exceeded.
- Assists in the development of program annual budget and ensures ongoing monitoring and tracking of expenses in accordance with the requirements of the finance department and program funder.
- Represents BGC in the community ensuring a good working relationship is maintained with community and other external stakeholders.
- Safeguards clients’ rights (including confidentiality) and quality assurance of programs ensuring “best practices” are met and maintained by program staff.
- Ensures program and client records are accurate, maintained and completed in conformance with the organization, funder, and accreditation standards.
- Works with the Director to ensure all reports to funders are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Provides direct counselling support to youth.
