In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, Records Management & Registration Services, the Coordinator, Release of Information (ROI), provides regional leadership to all Health Information Management (HIM) ROI officers. The Coordinator is primarily responsible for leading and promoting ROI activities in accordance with established policies and procedures and applicable legislation. The Coordinator is responsible for evaluating and implementing technology advances to improve efficiency within the ROI department and developing a centralized/regional model. The Coordinator works closely with the Information Stewardship, Access & Privacy Office, coordinating and ensuring consistency of practice regarding release of information in compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy of BC and other relevant legislation. Acts as a health records release of information liaison with appropriate individuals or agencies as necessary.
Travel is a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and will require the use of a personal vehicle.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Science, Information Management, Health Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience with evidence of continuing professional development in the area of information privacy and information management, plus five (5) years’ recent related experience in area of expertise including a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership role. Knowledge of freedom of information and protection of privacy legislation, patient’s rights to confidentiality and legal requirements for the production of records is essential. Current valid BC Driver’s License.

- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the health care system.
- Performs other related duties as required.
