- Medical terminology knowledge along with surgical procedure background knowledge
- Surgical background in handling a schedule / OR board
- Must have computer skills/background
- Familiar with doing payroll, ordering
- Excellent people skills

Responsibilities:
- When calling the SDS unit floors to OR provides patient name and surgeon, Inform PACU of cancellations, Move up other cases if there are cancellations unless it s a different surgeon ; then checks with the next doctor in line if he wants to move up since add-on s are put into the space
- Responds to others in a helpful and supportive manner, especially in times of increased patient activity and short staffing situations.
- Regularly consults with and/or advises appropriate personnel of situations requiring follow-up attention.
- Recognizes unsafe acts or conditions and takes action immediately; continuously reports unsafe acts or conditions until satisfied that appropriate action has been taken.
- Peoplesoft and 3M awareness and begin to use, update phone logs, enter lab requests and pharmacy/blood run if needed
- Promptly performs all errands assigned; delivers or picks up supplies from other departments as needed.
- Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment at all times.
- Performs nursing assessments and med reconciliation on all patients presenting for POP, Communicates with physician office for medical clearances, Performs POP assessments via telephone on those patients without a POP appointment and Performs final check on all charts day prior to surgery to assure chart is complete
- Initiates preop phone calls with instructions for day of surgery, Obtains lab reports, H&P, etc via use with SMS, and Reviews POP checklist for completion.
- Assignment sheets and OR schedule, Bulletin boards, SDS processes, reporting unusual occurrences and patient flow
- Calling for patients, maintaining schedule, control traffic, ordering supplies, chart preparation and SDS worksheet.
- Consistently completes all activities during the assigned shift without interference in the quality of the work performed.
- Consistently demonstrates an ability to set appropriate priorities in the functions in an organized and time-conscious manner
- Demonstrates an ability to perform in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations when time is essential.
- Cross train to OR: Create requisitions for IT issues, Resource for Bridge/net learning, Assist with data for Surgical Care committee, Chart checks, IOL ordering, for OR if applicable, Create par levels and PI data collection
- Consistently strives to maintain good harmonious relationships and positive attitudes among the staff; promotes good group morale within the departments.
- Coordinate the notification to physician s offices on any abnormalities, Instructs coordinator of faxing to be done and enters POP orders on day of POP
