JOB DESCRIPTION:

Striving towards making Toronto one of the most sustainable cities in the world, the Environment and Climate Division (E&C) facilitates the development of corporate-wide and community environmental and energy policies and programs in order to reduce the environmental footprint of the entire Toronto community, guided by the TransformTO Climate Action Strategy.
We are a group of diverse and enthusiastic professionals dedicated to long-term environmental and energy sustainability. If you are a passionate and innovative individual with behaviour change and engagement skills and looking for an opportunity to collaborate and lead on transportation demand management (TDM) and climate action projects, this is the place for you!
In this role, you will support employers including the Toronto Public Service, commuters and residents in making use of sustainable transportation choices, develop, coordinate and implement TDM outreach and engagement projects with a goal to reduce single occupant vehicle trips and encourage sustainable transportation across the City.

YOUR APPLICATION MUST DESCRIBE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AS THEY RELATE TO:

  • Post-secondary degree in Environmental Studies, Geography, Science, Environmental Planning, Marketing or Business with relevant working experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable experience dealing with City Divisions, the business community, community groups and the public.
  • Experience in planning and implementing multi-stakeholder projects that are focused on positive behavior change.
  • Experience conducting research, surveys and summarizing results.
  • Experience writing reports, developing training, educational and/or promotional materials.
  • Considerable experience in delivering a Smart Commute program or other Transportation Demand Management programming.
  • Experience working with and promoting sustainable transportation options including transit, walking, biking, carpooling, telework and shared mobility as modes of transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, establishes, promotes and implements programs geared towards increasing the use of alternatives to the car for transportation, including carpooling, public transit, bicycling, walking and telework.
  • Conducts baseline commuter surveys and site assessments and summarizes the results for the purpose of determining the Smart Commute participants’ needs.
  • Designs and implements work plans for Smart Commute clients based on the results of surveys and site assessments.
  • Works with Divisions, City Agencies and designated city staff to develop Smart Commute initiatives and policies within the Toronto Public Service.
  • Works with employers and corporate and community leaders to develop Smart Commute programs within corporations, businesses and organizations.
  • Develops and manages projects related to improving sustainable commuting infrastructure at City facilities.
  • Prepares, develops and presents training programs and education materials.
  • Conducts presentations to stakeholders, program partners and members of the public at various locations in the community.
  • Writes articles and press releases on Smart Commute activities, issues and events for newsletters and the media.
  • Works with City Divisions and Agencies, Boards and Commissions to facilitate committees and task groups.
  • Coordinates special events and corporate initiatives. Liaises with various external groups, produces materials and co-ordinates volunteers. Generates sponsorship for programs and events, where applicable.
  • Leads Smart Commute Champion Network staff volunteers to engage the Toronto Public Service in sustainable commuting habits.
  • Answers enquiries (verbal and written) from the public, members of Council and employees.
  • Leads the development and implementation of communications and marketing plans, including website updates.
