Description:
Are you an experienced copy editor who’s passionate about cultural storytelling? Can you work on a complex publishing pipeline while spotting a dodgy statistic from a mile away? Are you unphased by the pace of digital publishing and value well-researched, thought-provoking work?
Canvas8 is looking for an organised and detail-obsessed copy editor to join a growing team, edit fascinating stories, and help to ensure our high editorial standards.
ABOUT US
We are Canvas8, a strategic insights practice with offices in London, New York, Los Angeles, Singapore and Manila.
We help our clients understand people so they can make better business decisions. Our work investigates the hidden insights in everyday life – from the psychology of boredom to football fandom and why Barbiecore is a Gen Y thing – and makes them meaningful for brands. Our content tells compelling cultural and behavioural stories for clients like Nike, Google, LEGO, and Ogilvy.
Our team has a diverse blend of disciplines and skills, from psychology to journalism and anthropology to behavioural economics. What unites us is a desire to understand people and a passion for delivering outstanding work.
REQUIREMENTS
- 3 - 6 years of experience sub-editing or copy editing for a publication or online platform
- First-rate organisational and procedural skills
- Detail and deadline-focused – able to make smart decisions, fast
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience using CMS systems
- Culturally aware and comfortable discussing complex ideas
Responsibilities:
Working with our global team of analysts and writers, you’ll be the final eyes on all our content, including trend reports, newsletters, and website copy. You’ll help to ensure that the daily content for the Canvas8 Library – a platform of over 35,000 articles – is produced and published on time and to the highest standard.
You’ll work closely with our team of editors and analysts to ensure that all of our outputs – whether a snappy website pop-up or a 10,000-word research report – are error-free, insightful, useful, and in line with our Canvas8 tone of voice. You’ll stress-test our statistics and claims to ensure they’re robust – and you’ll be comfortable sourcing better data if necessary.
You’ll develop your analytical nous and contribute to projects beyond editing, including how we integrate new technologies into the production process. You’ll work with teams across the business to grow your understanding of our audience, enabling you to make informed and strategic edits. You’ll use the insight you’ve gained to contribute to meetings on our editorial strategy and act as an avatar for our clients and Members, enabling you to hold our pieces to the highest standard.
You’ll have the opportunity to host workshops and upskill our writers and editors, building your brand along the way. You’ll also work closely with our Dev team to ensure our bespoke Canvas8 CMS delivers our content in the most effective and intuitive way.
You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor junior sub-editors, helping them to bed in and improve their subbing skills and making them feel welcome, valued, and supported.
