Job Description
The Corporate Accountant will be part of Brookfield Property Partners Corporate team and will report to the Manager, Finance. Located in our head office in Downtown Toronto, the Corporate Accountant role provides a solid foundation and exposure to a progressive and dynamic career with a leading global asset management firm. The Corporate Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the accounting records within Brookfield’s corporate operations, and work with various internal stakeholders and teams to identify and implement key improvement opportunities.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities for this position would include, among other things:
- Maintain the inventory of derivative contracts across Canadian and Bermuda entities, confirm derivative contracts with counterparties, and prepare/record quarterly journal entries;
- Assist with preparation of the Corporate quarterly reporting pack;
- Prepare financial statements and other legal entity financial information based on tax, lender, and regulatory agency requests;
- Analyze and explain interest expense QoQ variance for debt, derivatives, credit facility, and intercompany loans;
- Prepare recurring journal entries for items such as cash, accruals, reporting top-side reclasses;
- Prepare journal entries in the event of restructuring of Corporate entities and other significant transactions, working through the provided steps memo from tax/legal/finance;
- Maintain closing balance support and roll-forward reconciliations for significant and required balances within the Corporate entities, based on internal control requirements;
- Assist with requests from internal and external auditors relating to the Corporate ledgers
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
- Pursuing CPA desired, but not required
- Minimum of 3 years accounting experience
- Experience with Quantum, Chatham, MS Dynamics, and OneStream desired, but not required
- Strong financial systems experience, including advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinker who works well in a fast-paced, dynamic, complex and unstructured environment
- Able to work with changing priorities, meet deadlines, prioritizes well and able to work under pressure and independently
- Demonstrates flexibility and strong teamwork as well as professional and positive attitude
