About the department
The role of the External Communications team is to maximise every opportunity to build belief in our corporate story, purpose and strategy. The remit of the team includes corporate communications and content, corporate social media and website, and corporate events for all audiences, including clients, analysts, investors and colleagues.
The team is responsible for the delivery of key financial calendar activity, including Financial Results, the Annual General Meeting and the Annual Report and also includes a busy Media Relations operation. Led by the External Communications Director, we are part of the Brand, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability function.
About the role
You will be responsible for championing the corporate purpose and supporting the strategic business priorities of abrdn. You will play a key role in the delivery of corporate communication projects including development of our Annual Report and Accounts and financial calendar activity; communications support for C-Suite stakeholders; development of corporate messaging frameworks and TOV writing principles; participation in communication workstreams for key commercial projects; and crisis management scenarios.
You will also work closely with our Corporate Content team to develop relevant content for our ’owned’ channels, including social media and the corporate website.
The key objective of your role is to ensure the corporate narrative is clear, consistent and effectively delivered across our corporate channels.
Your business expertise and industry knowledge will also play a critical role in maintaining the credibility of the team to manage relationships and collaborate across the business.

Key Outcomes / Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the wider External Communications team to ensure abrdn’s purpose, performance and strategy is appropriately promoted and understood, across all audiences
  • Successfully lead key corporate projects and forums to coordinate critical and complex communication requirements
  • Lead on the creation of content in a variety of formats appropriate for corporate communication channels, including abrdn.com and corporate social media channels
  • Provide direct communications support to C-suite stakeholders including script writing, briefing notes and other long and short-form content
  • Produce and manage corporate communications content, including support for full year and half year results, Annual Report and Account production and Annual General Meeting key presentation deliverables
  • Collaborate and co-operate with colleagues in Brand, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability and throughout the business to ensure effective co-ordination and promotion of activity across the business
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and coordination of key business messages across channels to ensure delivery of strong and consistent messages to all stakeholders

About the candidate requirements

You will have strong, rounded corporate communications experience either in-house or within an agency. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the ability to manage complex multi-stakeholder communications in a regulated environment.

  • Corporate communications experience - particularly in corporate reporting and script writing Business and industry aware.
  • Strong writing skills to draft highly effective and insightful corporate content
  • Ability to build rapport, establish a network and maintain strong relationships at all levels of the business, including C-suite
  • Comfortable challenging and discussing complex issues and able to clearly articulate the key messages in writing or verbally for all stakeholders
  • Strong track-record of effective co-ordination of project delivery
  • Demonstrable reputation management expertise
  • Aware of listing and disclosure rules and experience managing confidential information
  • Outstanding organisational skills
