Description:

The Corporate Controller will be responsible for the direct supervision of all accounting and financial operations. Primary responsibilities include supervision of the accounting procedures, client accounts, collection of accounts receivable, supervising accounts payable, payroll and monthly and annual financial reporting to the owner such as monthly and annual preparation of a budget, quarterly tax projections and annual tax return preparation.
The Corporate Controller will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • BCom in Accounting, Finance, or related field;
  • Hold professional certification or in the process of obtaining it (CA, CGA, CMA or CPA).
  • 8+ years of proven experience as a Corporate Accountant.
  • Advanced computer skills including working knowledge of a variety of accounting software and the main
  • Microsoft Office suites in specific Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, conditional formulas, etc.)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • An analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude.
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Sage and Maestro Accounting software and exposure to the Oil & Gas and Construction industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting functions including: bookkeeping, payroll, A/P, A/R, inventory and bank reconciliations including any necessary departmental reporting;
  • Implement, document, and maintain adequate and effective internal controls and effective processes to: Improve the close and reporting cycles;
  • ensure timely and accurate reporting; and maintain corporate policies and procedures such as invoice processing, payroll, vendor management, etc;
  • Take responsibility for accurate and timely completion of month-end close of financial reporting and related accounting transactions;
  • Manage cash flows with respect to operating line of credit;
  • Distribution of financial reporting to senior management as necessary including any necessary presentations to management team
  • Work with Human Resources and Senior management with respect to employee compensation reporting;
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations;
  • Proper analytical review of the asset operations from a balance sheet, income statement and cash flow perspective as well as an overall business perspective;
  • Liaise with financial institutions, external accountant, lawyers and tax departments as required with respect to: Filing of monthly compliance reports and coordination of annual financial reporting and corporate tax returns with external accounting firm
  • Other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time including: Prepare budgets and operating plans develop short and long-term financial forecasts, budgets and operating plans; calculate ROIs for existing and potential investments, any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
  • And, as a member of the leadership team, participate in developing business and operating strategic initiatives; and
  • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.
