EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • At least three years post-admission experience in private practice or inhouse.
  • Experience in relevant areas of law such as trade marks and other intellectual property, privacy, advertising approvals, consumer law, trade promotions, and commercial contracting
  • Experience in corporate transactions and governance will be favourably considered

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We’re looking for an energetic and motivated Corporate Counsel to join our inhouse legal team in Melbourne, commencing in February/March 2024. The role is part-time, three days per week. Our team supports our business in all Australian states and territories.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • General commercial contracting: Prepare, review and negotiate commercial agreements for the acquisition or supply by the business of goods or services, agreements for program supply, and music, video and content licensing. Guide the business in understanding and managing contractual commitments and resolving disputes.
  • Trademarks and other IP: Assist with research, registration and searches in relation to intellectual property matters.
  • Advertising materials: Review advertising scripts and advise on compliance with applicable laws, regulations and codes (including the Australian Consumer Law, Therapeutic Goods Administration Act, Consumer Credit Code, the AANA Code of Ethics, state and territory gambling and alcohol laws, CRA Code of Practice, and Commercial TV Codes of Practice).
  • On-air and podcast talent contracts: Prepare and negotiate contractual arrangements for on-air (including podcasting) talent.
  • Trade promotions and competitions: Assist promotions and content teams with development and implementation of trade promotions and competitions, including preparation of required terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • On-air, digital and social media content: Assist content teams to ensure that on-air and on-line content complies with applicable legal and regulatory requirements (including CRA Code of Practice, Commercial TV Codes of Practice, music licensing requirements, and laws relating to privacy, copyright, defamation and contempt).
  • Team meetings: Participate in team meetings and follow up agreed actions.
  • Legal and regulatory compliance: Help the Legal team to stay up to date with changes in laws. Anticipate the legal needs of the business by proactively identifying legal trends, risks and opportunities. Work with other members of the Legal team to develop and deliver timely and relevant legal and compliance training to other SCA teams.
  • Legal systems and materials: Help to implement appropriate systems, templates and other standard documents to facilitate efficient conduct by the Legal team and SCA of common business transactions and activities.
