Description:

Corporate Counsel, Sydney
Working at Transurban is different; it’s a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create city-sized solutions—building and operating safer, smarter and more sustainable roads—to solve pressing transport challenges that are slowing cities down.
About the role
We’re seeking a Corporate Counsel in our Sydney office to be responsible for providing high quality legal advice to those parts of the Transurban Group within your areas of responsibility.
This appointment is for a fixed term of up to 12 months, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position.
You’ll join an innovative team, who work together and make a meaningful impact for our customers and our teams.
As a Corporate Counsel you’ll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It’s meaningful, challenging and exciting work.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Provide legal support and advice to all business units
  • Ensure objectives are met through negotiating, advising on, drafting and reviewing commercial agreements and the development of contracts
  • Be commercial, engaging and a natural builder of relationships - you’ll enjoy getting on the front foot, working closely with business teams and connecting with other internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify new issues that require solutions and management

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills and experiences, including:

  • A law degree and qualification as a lawyer in Australia or comparable jurisdiction
  • Ideally, you’ll have 3 to 6 years post-qualification experience within a top tier law firm or relevant experience within the corporate sector, preferably with an infrastructure focus, although we may consider candidates outside of this PQE range
  • The ability to interpret legal requirements and apply them clearly and effectively to relevant business operations
  • You’ll be prepared to undertake a wide variety of work as required
  • You’ll bring the ability to take a proactive approach to managing legal risk, e.g. anticipate issues, propose solutions early and participate in regular business team meetings
  • Experience in any of construction, corporate, major projects, property, commercial, project financing or similar areas of practice with a focus on legal contracts will be highly regarded
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with individuals at all levels both within the organisation and externally
  • A team player – you actively contribute and work well in a close-knit team environment

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • A range of flexible working options
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, available for the duration of the contract, with superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well
  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests
  • Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more
  • Social activities and groups

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.
We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective and experience – whether they work for us or not. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.
We strongly encourage applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people living with disability. If you require any adjustments or support during the recruitment process, please contact us on
