Our fleets are constantly evolving and feature a range of vehicles - from pedal and electric bicycles, to standing and seated e-scooters, e-cargo bikes, and ADA accessible devices. We design and build our own vehicles, hardware, and software systems in house and run all our local operations to provide safe, efficient, and responsive mobility services that make communities more sustainable and livable. JOB SUMMARY

As Veo’s Corporate Counsel, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of the company’s legal processes. You will leverage your unique blend of legal expertise, ability to collaborate, and entrepreneurial mindset to address a wide array of legal issues. You will help shape the future of urban mobility by helping the company and team navigate demands and requirements of a highly regulated business. A requirement of this position is that you have expertise in product liability and personal injury defense and that you have practiced in the state of California.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience handling litigation involving general and product liability claims in California.
  • Extensive experience managing cases through various stages, including pleadings, motion practice, discovery, dispute resolution, and arbitration or trial.
  • Strong skills in case evaluation and critical thinking.
  • Required experience in negotiation, mediation, discovery, and motion practice.
  • Curious, enthusiastic, and passionate about challenges, with a collaborative team mindset and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and thrives in uncertain situations, capable of working effectively under pressure with minimal supervision while staying organized and diligent.
  • Experience in defending municipalities is an advantage.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior in-house roles at well-established companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify potential legal risks and address them with solutions that align with business goals, fostering stronger partnerships and supporting key objectives.
  • Lead and manage strategy with outside counsel, overseeing product liability and personal injury defense in the US.
  • Review and evaluate claims throughout pre-litigation and litigation to determine liability and assess damage risks.
  • Develop and implement successful litigation approaches, including managing discovery and pursuing early settlements when suitable.
  • Set annual defense budgets and establish exposure reserves.
  • Track and evaluate the performance of outside counsel to ensure efficient, cost-effective case handling without compromising quality.
  • Represent the company during mediations, court proceedings, and oversee arbitrations and trials when necessary.
  • Review, revise, and occasionally draft legal motions, working with outside counsel as needed.
  • Prepare corporate and expert witnesses for depositions.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to gather necessary information for discovery.
  • Perform legal research when required.
  • Create and execute strategies to minimize product liability risk.
  • Carry out other legal duties as assigned.
