Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

This is a key role as the business drives its growth ambitions, via a Corporate Development led strategy. As a member of the Corporate Development team, the individual will support all aspects of the BBC Studios investment, acquisition and growth strategy. This includes supporting throughout the entire investment process from market research, to target identification, valuation and financial modelling, preparation of investment memos to the Board and assisting with due diligence. The role offers a unique opportunity to work cross-functionally with exposure to senior leadership across the business.

Other key elements of the role include:

  • Investment appraisal - evaluate commercial and strategic elements to assess lifetime profitability of an investment and its position in the capital allocation framework. This will require the role holder to understand and analyse fine detail, whilst also being able to present a compelling story at the macro level, highlighting the salient issues or findings.
  • Involvement in strategic planning, including preparation of consolidated financials to ensure the long term financial position is rigorously modelled and assisting with debt and other fundraising activities as required.
  • Preparation of high quality presentation materials and submissions for external stakeholders and investors.
  • Support with the evaluation and execution of organic growth initiatives.
  • Ad hoc projects supporting executives across the business.

The Corporate Development Manager will be a dynamic self-starter, have excellent communication (both written and verbal), analytical and influencing skills, and will be able to build strong relationships quickly at all levels of seniority (internally and externally).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with evaluating strategic and commercial opportunities, including mergers, acquisitions and divestments:
  • Market research, target evaluation and selection.
  • Preparation of robust and informative valuation models, including integrated three statement financial model.
  • Support transaction execution, including due diligence, working with external advisors where necessary and collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders.
  • Support strategic planning and transformation initiatives, including:
  • Preparing consolidated financials to ensure the long term financial position is accurately modelled, providing analysis and sensitivities into the business; and
  • Developing a corporate development strategy.
  • Provide investment appraisal over investment initiatives and advising internal investment boards.
  • Work with Company Secretarial to support the post-investment reviews process and assessing learnings to support future decision making.
  • Preparing performance reviews of the investment portfolio.
  • Maintaining a deal pipeline tracking document.
  • Support cross-company analysis required for horizontal operating boards.
  • Prepare presentations, reports and financial analysis for Senior Management on an ad hoc basis in a clear and concise manner.
  • Help to solve high profile business problems and progress transformational projects.
  • Work closely with and influence senior management to drive business performance through the provision of objective advice, insight and challenge, effectively acting as a catalyst for change.
  • Provide coaching and training to increase awareness of M&A activity/ skills to other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Update the WACC framework and advise the business on appropriate discount rates to use for business plans, long term contracts etc.
  • Facilitate self-development by identifying and meeting own skill development needs.
  • Facilitate a collaborative working environment by sharing information and collaboration on decision making.
